 BIOLOGY: FROM MOLECULES TO CELLS
(Grades 6-8 and 9-12) (570*)
The study of life science extends
from microscopic proteins to entire ecosystems, including an understanding of human body systems. This course emphasizes the relationship between structures and their functions, the
basic cell theory that will help students understand the characteristics of life. The course will include hands-on activities as students build models of cells to learn about multicellular organisms, the role
of genes and the effects of mutation. Students will also use the models to explore how cells use DNA to construct proteins, build biomass, reproduce and create complex multicellular organisms.
Instructor: Veronica Galang has been an educator for more than 20 years, teaching astronomy, biology, chemistry, nanotechnology and physics. She has a master’s degree in physics and enjoys helping students apply critical and analytical thinking to understand the relationships between diverse concepts.

CREATING ART LIKE THE MASTERS FOR KIDS
(Grades 7-12) (430*)
This course reviews eight renowned
art masters from art history, including Matisse, Picasso and O’Keeffe. Students will be encouraged to imitate the
style of each artist, as taught in class, and to experiment with each artist’s
style or technique while developing a masterpiece of their own during each session. No art experience is required.
Instructor: Viviana Leija-Sysak is a visual artist who has worked in television production and as an art instructor in a variety of media, from drawing to video animation.
Class requirements: Tablet or computer with internet capability; watercolor pad with at least 10 pages; watercolor set with at least primary colors plus black; construction paper in a variety of colors; at least one brush; pencil (any type); eraser (any type); scissors and a glue stick.
