Building on the fundamentals taught
in Writing Concepts I, this course will take students through two more types
of writing. In the first part of the class, students will write a research paper on
a topic of their own choice, learning
to write a claim, find and evaluate websites, research a topic using at least three sources, and craft an essay. In the second half, students will read a short story, practice writing short answer questions. They will learn to write a claim and support their ideas with evidence from the text, incorporating quotations from the story as well as from outside sources as relevant. All topics are based on Common Core Curriculum.
